Candidate Johnson brings ‘fresh perspective’

Ed Johnson, a 17-year resident of Fayetteville, is the newest candidate for Post 1 of the Fayetteville City Council.

Ed has tirelessly served Fayette County and has been dedicated to building bridges of brotherhood and understanding throughout the community.

Johnson is clearly no stranger to the beauty of our fair city and its challenges. His past service includes: former member of the Fayette Factor Board, former member of the Board of Directors for the Fayette YMCA, president of the Fayette Ministerial Alliance, a member of the Fayette Chamber of Commerce, former president of Fayette County NAACP, served on the Fayette County Board of Education’s Teacher of the Year Selection Committee, and was a volunteer Bible study teacher for the Fayette Senior Citizens Center.

Time and time again, Ed has demonstrated his integrity and leadership.

When asked why he was seeking this position Johnson replied: “My term will be focused on providing fresh and objective perspectives to return our city to higher performance and response to citizen concerns; providing strategic insight and initiatives to decrease crime, and to providing the vision needed to enhance economic development.”

Ed Johnson is a 22-year retired U.S. Navy officer, dedicated to the service of community, God and country. He is a teacher at Martin Luther King, Jr. School in DeKalb County, and is the senior pastor at Flat Rock AME Church (on Ga. Highway 54 between Fayetteville and Peachtree City).

His proven leadership skills were honed as a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College. He holds a M.S. from the U.S. Naval War College and a master’s degree from Salve Regina University.

He and his beautiful wife, Dr. Vanessa Hall Johnson, are the proud parents of two sons, both graduates of Fayetteville high schools, one a graduate of the dual degree engineering program from Morehouse College and Georgia Institute of Technology and the other from Georgia State University.

Ed Johnson is well respected throughout the area. His leadership on the City Council will make a difference in maintaining and improving our quality of life; help guide the resurgence in citizen confidence and job creation.
