The Fayetteville City Council as expected at the Aug. 18 meeting approved a combined general fund and capital projects rollback millage rate of 3.441 mills, a two-hundredths of 1 percent decrease over last year. The council also approved a sign variance for the new LongHorn Steakhouse restaurant being constructed on Ga. Highway 85 south of the Fayette Pavilion.
The council approved a general fund millage rate of 2.691 mills and a capital projects rate of .75 mills for a total of 3.441 mills.
With what by all accounts appears to be a continuing recession, council members were also told that tax digest numbers came with a decrease again this year. The 5.86 percent decrease for 2011 leads to one mill equalling $794,000 and translates into a total tax digest with billable taxes of $2,732,222, said Robinson.
Pertaining to the sign variance request, the council was told by city Senior Planner Linwood Robinson that LongHorn was requesting three wall signs rather than the two allowed by the development ordinance. The council agreed with city planning staff and approved the request.
The 6,242 square-foot LongHorn Steakhouse restaurant is being constructed on the site of the former Johnny Carino’s Italian Restaurant on Hwy. 85 North just south of the Fayette Pavilion.
