The races are on in Peachtree City and Tyrone. Two contenders have qualified for each of two council seats in Peachtree City, and a whopping six candidates have qualified for three seats on the Tyrone Council, including the mayor’s post.
Post 1 incumbent Eric Imker waited until almost the last possible moment before qualifying closed Friday afternoon, but he signed his name before the deadline, becoming the second person to qualify for that seat. The other Post 1 qualifier was Steve Allen, who lives in the Bradford Estates subdivision. Allen lists his job as being in the field of information technology services.
As expected, George Dienhart of the Robinson Woods Estates subdivision has qualified for the Post 2 seat being vacated by Councilman Doug Sturbaum. Also qualifying for the Post 2 race was Smokerise resident Scott Brown.
Dienhart is a single father of four who has worked in the software industry and most recently wrote a column for the Fayette County News. Brown owns his own architectural drafting firm, which he runs out of his home.
In Tyrone, Qualifying for mayor by press time Friday were Post 2 Councilman Eric Dial and marketer Derrick L. Jackson.
The qualifiers for the Post 1 seat were bookkeeper Linda M. Howard and volunteer Tammy Proctor. Incumbent Tracy Young had not qualified by press time.
Post 2 qualifiers included career consultant Pota Coston and Hero Box founder Ryan Housley.
Qualifying in Tyrone ran through Sept. 2.
