The summer concert series at “The Fred” may have ended last Saturday with the Edwin McCain/10,000 Maniacs concert, but the Tribute Series will keep the music going. This Saturday, Georgia’s own, Departure, one of the most respected Journey tribute bands in the nation, performs.
“When I was researching the bands last season to come up with the schedule for this year’s series, they were one of the best of all the bands I heard,” said Tribute Series founder Chris Verdon. “Lucky for me, they were from the area.”
Verdon knows that the people who have attended the two tribute concerts that he has staged thus far have seen some terrific shows. Now he is asking them to spread the word.
“Both Slippery When Wet (a Bon Jovi tribute band) and Big Shot (a Bily Joel tribute band) were amazing,” Verdon said. “I know the audiences had a great time and were blown away by the level of talent and musicianship. You can expect that same level of talent with the rest of the shows in this year’s series. You won’t be disappointed.”
Departure has been together for four years and they play all of the Journey songs that audiences know and love. They have performed hundreds of shows around the U.S. and capture the look, sound and feel of a Journey show that is appropriate for all ages.
Tickets for Departure are still on sale. They are $20. Gates open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.tributeseries.net
