South Fayette home burns after lightning strike

A house on Littlefield Court off Seay Road in south Fayette County suffered substantial damage after being struck by lightning July 9. No one was home when the fire occurred.

Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson Donnie Davis said the fire was called by in neighbors at 6:35 p.m. The first units arrived at 6:38 p.m. and firefighters had the fire under control at 8:30 p.m.

The family was away from home when the lightning strike and fire occurred, Davis said.

Lightning during a thunderstorm struck the front side of the two-story house and caused substantial damage, estimated at approximately $200,000, Davis said, adding the fire crews were able to salvage some furniture and other articles.

No injuries to firefighters were reported, Davis said.
