John C. “Mack” Bray, age 88, was born in Fayette County on May 29, 1923, the fifth of eight brothers, to Ruby Brown Bray and Burgess Bray.
He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving as a carpenter general in England, France and Germany from January 1943 to December 1945. He continued to work as a carpenter and later as a Fayette County Building Inspector from 1978 until retirement in 1992. He was actively involved with the Fayetteville Masonic Lodge #711 and was elected as Past Master in 1978.
Mack was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Williams Bray, his grandson, Christopher Forsyth and five brothers.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn and Robert “Spike” Forsyth from Fayetteville; granddaughter, Nikki and Bobby Haydon and great-grandsons, Connor, Colton, Camden from Newnan; brothers, Joe Bray, Brooks, Loy Bray from Huntsville, AL; sisters-in-law Lulu Bray from Conyers and Avonne Bray from Newnan, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Rev. Wally Woodcock will officiate. Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, with military and Masonic honors. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
