Dr. Edgar Lee Bolin, Jr., D.C., died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Piedmont Fayette Hospital.
A native of Sumter, SC, he was born August 5, 1930. Dr. Bolin grew up in Savannah, GA, and as a child attended Massey Elementary School, 38th Street School, and graduated from Savannah High School in 1948. He attended Armstrong Jr. College in Savannah, George Washington University in Washington, DC, and graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, IA.
Dr. Bolin practiced chiropractic medicine for 45 years in Savannah, Atlanta, and College Park, GA. In his early career he was employed with the Federal Bureau of Investigation under the leadership of J. Edgar Hoover where he served as a Fingerprint Analyst. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Navy where he was involved in Naval Intelligence.
Dr. Bolin was a Rotarian for 20 years and a Kiwanian for 15 years. A Freemason, he was Worshipful Master of W.D. Luckie Lodge #89 of Atlanta and a member of Fayetteville Lodge #771. A lifelong Presbyterian, he served as a Deacon and an Elder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Lee Bolin, Sr. and Izora Calvert Bolin, and sister, Myra Elizabeth Bolin.
A devoted family man, he is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Bonnie Thrasher Bolin, daughter, Andrea Bolin Ferrara, two granddaughters, Anjelica Mae Ferrara, and Colby Marie Ferrara Black, (Christopher), and former son-in-law, Vincent Scott Ferrara.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 24, 2011 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with services to follow on Saturday, at 11:00AM in the chapel.
