The public’s help is being sought to identify two men who shot a 56-year-old man during an attack on Ga. Highway 138 near the Clayton County line at 7:40 p.m. last night.

The assailants were described as black males approximately 18 to 25 years old, shirtless and wearing blue jeans that were slightly rolled up at the bottom, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. A witness at the scene reported that one of the suspects was about six feet tall and the other was shorter.

The victim was shot in the abdomen and had other injuries from the assault, deputies said. The motive for the attack is unclear at this point, as investigators have been unable to interview the victim as he is being treated at Atlanta Medical Center.

The attackers fled on foot west on Hwy. 138, and they were last seen running south on Commerce Street in Fayette County, according to an eyewitness account.

Fayette County K-9 units and the sheriff’s helicopter tracked the suspects, but it terminated in a commercial storage area at the dead end of Commerce Street, officials said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Detective B. Rowan at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office at 770-716-4755 or brentr@fayettecountyga.gov.
