The day will finally be here for Senoia area residents to get their new library. The much-anticipated groundbreaking for the 6,563 square-foot replacement library will be held on April 23 at 11 a.m. at the library site on Pylant Street at the Marimac Lake property.
The 6,563 square-foot library will be situated on 1.04-acres of city-owned property on Pylant Street and is bound on the north by residential property, on the south by the city-owned Marimac Lake Park and on the east by the Pylant Street Well property, also owned by the city. The library will have parking space for 35 vehicles.
Senoia Councilman and city representative for the library project Jeff Fisher said the Coweta County Library Board voted unanimously on March 25 to accept Headley Construction as the contractor and to accept Senoia’s approval of a recent $59,100 change order on the project. The library board then received approval for the change order from the Coweta County Commission. That approval was the final hurdle that will lead to the April 23 groundbreaking for the long-awaited project.
The Coweta County Library Board nearly two years ago approved a recommendation for the placement of the building on the Pylant Street property.
Just in case it were ever needed, plans for the library include the potential for an expansion of up to 50 percent more square footage due to the positioning of the building on the site. If an expansion were ever needed it would require relocating the parking area.
And while such an expansion is likely years away, the reality is that Senoia’s population increased by 90.28 percent between 2000-2010 and Coweta County grew to more than 127,000 residents, with many of those living in east Coweta.
