The Senoia City Council Monday night unanimously agreed to approve $59,000 in changes to the Senoia Library project. At more than 6,500 square feet, the new library to be located adjacent to Marimac Lake on Pylant Street could soon see final project approval by the Coweta County Library Board.
The 6,563 square-foot library will be located on city property on Pylant Street in Marimac Lake Park. Funds for the $1.7 million project have been in place for some time. That funding includes money from state sources that can only be used for construction and equipment and from a previous Coweta County Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax initiative.
The city had already agreed to contribute $134,000 for work pertaining to the parking lot, landscaping, water and sewer and an access drive.
Citing the request for additional funds, city Administrator Richard Ferry said the low bid for the library project came in over budget. The Coweta County Library Board worked with the bidder to remove project items that would bring it back within the budget parameters, Ferry said.
Senoia Library Board representative, Councilman Jeff Fisher, asked that the council consider contributing an additional $59,000 for work to the building’s exterior, Ferry said. The funds will come from the city’s Library Impact Fee, Ferry added. Any unused portion of the $59,000 will be returned to the city.
Fisher after the meeting said he expects that the library board will soon give final approval to the project.
