President Theodore Roosevelt coming to Newnan

The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society will present “An Evening with President Teddy Roosevelt” as portrayed by Joe Wiegand. Roosevelt will appear at the Wadsworth Auditorium, 25 Jefferson Street in Newnan, on Thursday, Mar. 24 at 7 p.m. He will speak on his life and careers. Admission will be $5 (students $3). Tickets will be available at the Male Academy Museum, 30 Temple Avenue, Newnan (770-251-0207), Scott’s Bookstore at 28 South Court Square, Newnan and at the door the evening of the performance.

Roosevelt, born in 1858, was a distinguished Harvard graduate, a cattle rancher, colonel in the U.S. Cavalry, Governor of New York, and Vice-President and 26th President of the United States. As President, he was responsible for building the Panama Canal, establishing 230 million acres of national parks and forests, and building a modern navy.

Wiegand is probably the premier portrayer of Theodore Roosevelt. He holds a political science degree from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee, is a Harry S. Truman Scholar and is an active member of the National Association for Interpretation. While on a 50 state tour commemorating Theodore Roosevelt’s 150th birthday, he performed at the White House and at Roosevelt’s birthplace in New York City.
