0The Starr’s Mill Speech and Debate team competed against twenty-two other teams from across Georgia at the inaugural GFCA Novice and JV State Championship, winning three championship trophies.
Georgia Brunner and Austin Russell are the JV Public Forum Debate State Champions. Brent Huang is the Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate State Champion. Paige Neary and Diana Ricketts are the Novice Duo Interpretation State Champions.
The team won several additional awards. Greg O’Brien and Derrick Weeks are Novice Public Forum Debate Semi-Finalists. Mallory Hu and Taylor Martin are Novice Public Forum Debate Quarter-Finalists. Valerie Harrison took second place in Novice Extemporaneous speaking while Emily Myers took third.
Emily Myers also took third in Novice Impromptu Speaking.
The Starr’s Mill Speech and Debate Team is coached by Juliana Wright and Sean Hickey.
