Mrs. Martha Bonnelle Preston, age 89, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Southland Health & Rehab Center in Peachtree City.

Mrs. Preston was born March 4, 1921 in Meansville, daughter of the late Brady Smith and the late Lonie Rogers Smith. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Griffin and retired from the Atlanta Gas Light Company as an accountant. Mrs. Preston graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Thomaston and the Georgia-Alabama Business College in Macon with degrees in stenography and bookkeeping. She was active in the Pilot Club in Griffin, the XYZ Club at First Baptist Church and Chairman of the Polo Foundation in the 1930’s. Mrs. Preston was a great wife and mom and an awesome grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Carson Preston.

Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law, Mark & Debbie Preston of Peachtree City; sister, Hazel Hugley of Thomaston; sisters-in-law, Ibby Smith of Ellenwood, Eunice Smith of Meansville and Betty Smith of Americus and grandchildren, Hannah Preston and Stuart Preston.

Funeral services for Mrs. Preston will be held Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Rev. Herzen Andone will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Saturday, February 19, 2011 from 4 – 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
