Mr. Donald Kelley Knowles, 74, of Riverdale, passed away on February 9, 2011, following a valiant battle with cancer.
Mr. Knowles was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, retiring after 20 years of service which included two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and it was said that he never met a stranger. He was an outdoorsman who loved fishing and an accomplished mechanic who could fix practically anything. In his spare time he was an avid viewer of the Fox News Channel.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Knowles; children, Debra Moody and her husband Richard of Lovejoy, Donald Kelley Knowles, Jr. and his wife Teresa of McDonough, Greg Knowles of Dallas, GA, Tony Knowles and his wife Sherri of Brooks, Keith Knowles and his wife Denise of Lebanon Junction, KY, Eddie Knowles of Rex and his wife Susan; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2011, at 3:00 PM at the Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Reverend Jerry Garner will officiate. Interment will follow at the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
