The life of Mona Stewart Lawson was remembered on February 6, 2011 with a gathering of friends and family at her son’s home in the Bent Tree community in Jasper, GA.

It is appropriate that Mona’s life was celebrated with a party rather than memorialized with a funeral, since Mona was a consummate hostess, known for being able to easily host both large, elegant Christmas parties and spontaneous fish-fries. Mona had a knack for making and keeping friends. Those attending the party included people who had known and loved Mona for over thirty years and for only three weeks.

Mona Lucille Stewart was born in Pensacola, Florida in 1938 to Shelby and Lucille Stewart of Troy, Alabama. She received her bachelor’s degree from Troy State University and her master’s degree from the University of West Georgia. She was married to Gerald Green Lawson, of Josie, Alabama from 1959 until his death in 2007. Mona worked as an English teacher and guidance counselor in the Fayette County Georgia school system before moving to Jasper, Georgia where she worked as a counselor for Dawson County High School until she retired.

Mona died on February 2, 2011, as her daughter Camden Lawson Eng, wife of Timothy Eng, was reading one of her favorite books to her.

She is also survived by her son Joshua Caraway Lawson, husband of Teresa Jordy Lawson, and daughter Mona Louise Lawson. In addition to her children, she leaves behind grandsons Benjamin Caraway Lawson, husband of Linden Brown Lawson, and Nathan Cade Eng, and granddaughters Rachel Wrenn Lawson, Jordan Shelby Eng, and Margaret Claire Eng, plus a multitude of extended family and friends who will miss her greatly.
