Mr. Franklin Ellis Thompson, of Fayetteville, GA, passed away on January 17, 2011 at the age of 78.
Mr. Thompson was born on December 31, 1932 in Dothan, AL , the third of five sons born to James Hope and Ada Simmons Thompson. He was raised in the Pensacola, FL area and graduated from Tate High School in Cantonment, FL. He attended the Pensacola Jr. College and later graduated from Southern Tech (Southern Poly-technical University) in Marietta, GA. He was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War. He was employed by the F.A.A. for over 35 years working mostly at the Atlanta Airport control tower. Mr. Thompson was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville. He previously served as an ordained Deacon at Meadows Baptist Church .
He is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, James S. Thompson and Alexander Byrd Thompson.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Jane Davis Thompson; daughter Karen Thompson Lindsay of Marietta, GA; sons John Thompson and his wife Kris and Richard Thompson and his wife Nicole both of Fayetteville; eleven grandchildren; two brothers, Weegie Thompson (Katie), and Marvin Thompson (Mary Louise); two sisters-in-law, Barbara Thompson, and Faye Thompson.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Reverend Hugh Kirby officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
