Fayette County Retired Educators Association (FCREA) is proud to announce [Gov.] Sonny Perdue has proclaimed Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010 as Retired Educators Day in Georgia. Tyrone, Fayetteville, and Peachtree City will make presentations on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, honoring Fayette’s retired educators.

Statewide, more than 82,000 retired educators have devoted their time, energies and talents to public education, providing the educational development of millions of outstanding Georgia citizens.

FCREA is a service and action organization. Its members volunteer to many local non-profit/charitable organizations within the community. FCREA is a continuing partner with Fayette Samaritans. This year FCREA is participating with Project HOPE, collecting adult sized t-shirts and socks for residents of Milledgeville Regional Hospital.

On this special day, everyone is encouraged to recognize and show appreciation to retired educators for their dedicated service to our county, state and nation. Take the time to thank a teacher. Suggestions as to how the citizens of Fayette can thank a former teacher appear below.

• Make a donation to FCREA’s scholarship fund in their honor/memory.

• Become a sponsor and be recognized on FCREA’s website.

• Purchase a copy of “Reflections of Georgia Educators II” and present it to Fayette County Public Library or a school library.

• Send a thank you note or letter to a former educator.

Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, the cities of Fayetteville, Peachtree City, and Tyrone will issue proclamations to honor retired educators within their communities.

All FCREA meetings are open to the public and membership is available to anyone interested in education. More information about FCREA can be obtained from its website (www.orgsites.com/ga/fayette_ga_retired_educators). What will you do to thank a teacher?
