Gracie’s Closet, the clothing and supply resource center of Fayette Youth Protection Homes, Inc. (FYPH), is in need of new or gently used children’s clothing (babies through teenage sizes). The clothing will be given to local children living in foster care and the organization’s residential group home, the Friday-Johnson Home.
Nine out of ten children come into the foster care system with nothing but the clothes on their backs. In response to this need, Gracie’s Closet provides Fayette County and surrounding area foster children with free clothing, infant equipment, books and school supplies. Items are either new or gently used, and the environment is like that of a fun store! The mission of Fayette Youth Protection Homes, Inc. is to make foster children feel special and provide them with some of the things they need and deserve.
Gracie’s Closet is open to foster children by appointment only, and visits are scheduled on a quarterly basis or after a growth spurt, whichever comes first. During each visit, “shoppers” may select a week’s supply of free clothing and other necessities. Foster parents are encouraged to return items to the closet when they are no longer needed so that someone else may use them.
Gracie’s Closet is a community-wide effort, and donations of new or gently-used infant, child, or teen clothing, baby gear, school supplies, books and toiletries are welcome.
During this time of year, winter outerwear, pajamas and warm clothing are needed and appreciated. There is an immediate need for boy’s shoes in good condition, sizes 1-3. Cash donations are always welcome and appreciated.
Items can be dropped off at Gracie’s Closet at 101 Devant St, Suite 502, Fayetteville, Monday – Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The office is located off of Gingercake Road, just north of the intersection of Hwy. 54 and Gingercake, behind the Waffle House restaurant.
