Now in its third year, the revamped Cemetery Walk will be held for one night only on Saturday, Oct. 23. The nearby museum’s Spirit Guides will take visitors on a guided walking tour through the Historic City Cemetery. The tour will stop at different gravesites where visitors will meet spirits from beyond the grave and learn about local history through interesting tales that shaped Fayette County’s history.
Some of the stories told will include the great cyclone of 1892, the hardships of fighting soldiers in the Civil War and Fayetteville’s local ties to Doc Holliday and Margaret Mitchell.
Tours will take place on Saturday, Oct. 23, between 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Admission is $5 Adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Tickets are on sale now at the Fayetteville Train Depot/Welcome Center.
Also, for the entire month of October, a special Mourning Rituals exhibit featuring Victorian Mourning Styles & Rituals will be displayed at the Museum. Mourning jewelry, gowns and letters will be displayed from the 1800’s.
Families can make a day of it by first by visiting the array of jack-o-lanterns lining the sidewalks at the Old Courthouse as part of the traditional Pumpkin Walk, then, across the street to get candy at Trick or Treat on Main Street before finishing with the Cemetery Walk.
