Transportation plan: Have your input now

I am extremely concerned that other Fayette citizens won’t have the opportunity to submit comments concerning the latest Fayette County Transportation Plan within the specified time period.

If folks don’t know to look on the county website for this latest transportation plan, they won’t be able to take advantage of the opportunity. I have no hopes that anyone’s comments will amount to a hill of beans where our current commissioners are concerned, but at least the citizenry will have been informed about the plan.

Anyone who is planning to make Fayette County his or her home or permanent residence should carefully examine the county’s latest comprehensive transportation plan. Otherwise you might be blind-sided with a project that will detrimentally impact your life and property.

Whether you live in Fayetteville, North Fayette, South Fayette, West Fayette, North West Fayette, East Fayette, Tyrone, Peachtree City, Woolsey, or Brooks, there is a plan for your area and a map in Appendix C.

Appendix B provides lists of professionals and citizens who attended and participated in the workshops that helped form the plan. Appendix B also includes many public opinions concerning the projects.

Whereas I greatly oppose some of the aspects of the new transportation plan, I have to say that it is extremely thorough and to that end, I appreciate the effort.

As a member of the citizen’s group who voiced suggestions and opinions concerning the transportation plan, I received the following email from the Fayette County Public Works Department. However, I feel that ALL Fayette citizens should know about this plan and have the opportunity to voice their suggestions and opinions concerning the implementation of pertinent projects. The email I received is as follows:

“Fayette County’s DRAFT Comprehensive Transportation Plan is now posted on-line for public review and comment. The plan will be posted on the home page of the county’s website (www.fayettecountyga.gov) from Oct. 1 through Oct. 20, 2010.

“All comments should be provided in writing to the Fayette County Public Works Department before noon on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Comments may be submitted via email (publicworks@fayettecountyga.gov), facsimile (770-719-0871), or mailed to Fayette County Public Works, 115 McDonough Road, Fayetteville, GA 30215.

“Our email distribution list is comprised of attendees from public meetings related to this project and citizens who have provided comments to Public Works in regard to transportation issues.”

As a Fayette citizen, I urge every other homeowner and property owner to study the plan and respond with suggestions and opinions within the designated time period.
