Sue Gilbert Quay, age 81, of Peachtree City, GA, died at Newnan Health and Rehabilitation Home in Newnan, GA on August 24, 2010 from complications of Parkinson’s disease.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Stella Mae Gilbert, her father, Peter Reid Gilbert & her brother Arthur Gilbert.

She is survived by her husband Henry C. Quay, sons Michael H. Quay of Pahoa, HI & J. Timothy Quay of Peachtree City, GA; brother E. Reid Gilbert of Tucson, AZ; sister Mary Evelyn (William) Gottenstrator of Walnut Cove, NC; sisters-in-law Bonnie Howie of Harrisburg, NC, Ann (Walter) Gardner of Hiltons, VA & numerous nieces & nephews.

She was a graduate of Mineral Springs High School in Winston-Salem , NC and received her RN degree from Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte , NC. Early in her nursing career she worked in hospitals, industry & physicians’ offices. Her favorite was the newborn nursery. After her sons were born, she became a full-time stay at home mom involved in her sons’ various extracurricular activities. She went back to work as an industrial nurse in the 1980s. She was a great lover of music & the arts & an avid reader. She was an advocate for mental health & breast cancer survivors.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to the American Parkinson Disease Association (www.apdaparkinson.org) or the National Breast Cancer Foundation (www.nationalbreastcancer.org) or your favorite church/charity.

Memorial services will be held at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church (770-487-8717), 101 N. Peachtree Pkwy., Peachtree City, GA 30269 ) at 3 PM on Saturday, August 28, 2010.
