It is a proposal that the Senoia City Council has asked to be examined further before rendering a decision. An initial proposal at the July 5 meeting by Tranquil Village, LLC would have an assisted living center situated on property recently surplused by the city. City Administrator Richard Ferry will be responsible for gathering information that could lead to a contract on the property.
Ferry at the meeting explained that Tranquil Village, LLC was proposing to either pay $5,000 per acre for the seven-acre property or to construct a building of similar value to be used as a meeting place by the Boy Scouts. The idea of creating an assisted living center is keeping with the city’s previously stated position that the property be used to develop a facility for elderly care, Ferry said.
But the city needs to get more information on the proposed project, Ferry said, adding his recommendation that city staff meet with Tranquil Village personnel to determine what the company is willing to do and what the city is willing to accept and, from there, move the talks to the contract level.
The council agreed, instructing Ferry to begin talks with the company.
Also at the July 5 meeting, the council approved up to a three percent merit pay increase for city staff based on the determination by department heads.
“City staff reacted very well to having their wages frozen last year,” said Mayor Robert Belisle, noting the staff had maintained their level of participation in their jobs.
The council also voted to add two staff positions to the Public Works department in order to be able to keep up with demand.
