The Senoia Farmers Market was such a hit on its opening day two weeks ago that the City Council gave approval Monday night for the market to add a second Saturday and begin operating twice each month. Located in the parking lot at City Hall, the farmers market will be open June 26 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Downtown Development Authority Chair Suzanne Helfman told council members that the request was being made due to the number of people attending and the enthusiasm of the vendors.
The market will be open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays through October.
The idea of having a farmers market came to fruition following a meeting of more than 100 city residents last summer during a community forum sponsored by DDA. The meeting was conducted for the development authority by a representative of the Georgia Dept. of Community Affairs.
It was during that meeting that citizens said they would like to see more pedestrian accessibility, increased food choices, an outdoor entertainment venue, the availability of a home improvement business and, among other things, a farmers market.
