It’s an exciting and special year for everyone at Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts as they celebrate 20 years of excellence in performing arts education and professional productions.

Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts in association with Georgia Dance Theatre presents performances annually to showcase their dancers, with the belief that these productions are an integral part of their dance education in the fine arts. With 20 years of success, two studio locations, and a growing professional company, we believe that Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts has definitely grasped the fine arts within our community.

Year after year, we watch in amazement as they coordinate the largest productions south of the Atlanta Ballet, with professionalism and elaborate artistic creativity – Don’t miss out on such an incredible opportunity to witness the beauty of the performing arts with your family and friends! Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts will present its 20th Annual Celebration of Concert Series featuring two contemporary productions, two early childhood productions, and one classical ballet production – this year marking their largest series of performances!

On Sunday, June 13th at 6 p.m. at The Centre for the Performing & Visual Arts of Coweta County, located on Lower Fayetteville Road in Newnan, Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts in association with Georgia Dance Theatre will present the timeless classic, Coppelia. This mesmerizing ballet portrays a comical story of mistaken identity, a beautiful mechanical doll, known as “Coppelia,” and the intricate love story of the two main characters, “Swanilda” and “Franz.”

Leading the ballet this year is Georgia Dance Theatre Professional Company Member, Jenny Reynolds, dancing the role of “Swanilda.” Reynolds is in her eighth season as a Georgia Dance Theatre Professional Company Member and has trained with Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts for the past 19 years. “I am honored to be dancing the lead this year,” says Reynolds. “Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts has been my home since the age of 5, and I am so excited to be performing the lead for the company – it is a dream come true!”

In addition to her 19 years of training at Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts, Ms. Reynolds received training from American Ballet Theatre, Atlanta Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Burklyn Ballet Theatre, and The Lines Ballet of California.

Upon training with them, Ms. Reynolds was offered apprenticeships with prestigious companies such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Center of New York and Lines Ballet of California. She has also been a guest performer with Burklyn Ballet Theatre, touring with the company in Edinburg, Scotland, and was a member of the professional touring company of Angela Whitehill’s Paradise Ballet Theatre.

You might have seen her mesmerize audiences this past December as the “Snow Queen” in Georgia Dance Theatre’s performances of The Nutcracker Ballet with American Ballet Theatre’s Gray Davis as her “Snow King.”

If you haven’t seen her past performances, you might have heard of Reynolds through the hundreds of students that she has taught at Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts within our local community. Reynolds is a dance educator at Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts teaching various genres of dance, including classical ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, and several early childhood classes.

“Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts provided me the training and foundation to have a true career in the performing arts, both as a teacher and as dancer,” says Reynolds. “I feel so fortunate to have a career that I am so passionate about. Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts and our wonderful staff helped make that possible!”

This classic adventure is brought to stage with creativity and excitement by professional dancers from the Atlanta Ballet and Georgia Dance Theatre, the students of Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts, and several volunteers. Under the direction of Sherri Davis, owner and director of Georgia

Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts, and Ballet Mistresses, Melony Tribble and Mary Donaldson, this original ballet is packed with excitement and humor, dolls that come to life, and an elaborate wedding celebration. Davis and her ballet mistresses have captured the beauty of a classic ballet and projected it on stage with brilliant, engaging choreography and talented dancers.
