Rebecca (Becky) Hilliard Carl, 82, of Peachtree City, passed away March 14, 2010 from complications following a stroke suffered over the summer.
Becky was born on August 30, 1927 in Memphis, TN, daughter of D. Moss and Iris Wilson Hilliard, both natives of Obion, TN and life-long Memphis educators. In 1946, she married Ralph L. Carl and moved to his home state of New York. After 40 years spent mostly in Corning, NY they retired and moved to Peachtree City, GA.
Becky will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother as well as a helpful friend to so many. She was a 24-year member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church, where she served many ministries, including serving for many years as Bible leader/moderator of the Ruth Circle. She was an avid reader, accomplished bridge player and lover of animals.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph L. Carl, and is survived by her brother & sister-in-law, David M. & Patsy Hilliard of Franklin, TN; daughter Sally Jo Carl of Prairie, TX; son & daughter-in-law Ralph A. & Carolyn Carl of Atlanta, GA and her grandson Marshall Carl of Atlanta, GA.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Peachtree City United Methodist Church, 225 Robinson Road, Peachtree City, GA. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Property/Maintenance Fund, First Presbyterian Church, 1 E. First St., Corning, NY 14830, to the Endowment Fund at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1738 Galloway, Memphis, TN 38112 or to the Fayette County Animal Shelter, 140 Stonewall Ave West, Fayetteville, GA 30214 .
