Southern Crescent Symphony, Irish group and vocalist take stage at Spivey Hall this weekend

Clayton State University’s world-famous Spivey Hall will welcome the Southern Crescent Symphony on Friday, Mar. 12 to start off a weekend of music on the Clayton State campus.

Following the local performers on Saturday and Sunday will be Spivey Hall debuts by an Irish musical aggregation and Canadian bass-baritone Gerald Finley.

The Southern Crescent Symphony, Richard Bell and Carl Rieke conductors, will present a 7:30 p.m. program entitled, “The Symphony Orchestra – Some Assembly Required.” It’s a program for music lovers of all ages, demonstrating how the various musical families work together to create the sound of a symphony orchestra. Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for children.

On Saturday, Mar. 13, the Irish music quartet Patrick Street will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a little early by making their Spivey Hall debut at 8:15 p.m. Kevin Burke, Andy Irvine, Ged Foley and John Carty are four brilliant players collectively known as Patrick Street, renowned for playing Irish traditional music. Admission is $35.

Then, on Sunday, Mar. 14, at 3 p.m., bass-baritone Finley, accompanied by pianist Julius Drake, will make his Spivey Hall debut. Finley will also be giving a pre-concert talk at 2 p.m. Admission is $40.
