There was no discussion needed last week at the meeting of the Coweta County Commission as board members unanimously approved a conditional use permit and buffer variance for Crossroads Baptist Church to construct a 14-acre recreation complex off Marion Beavers Road.

County zoning administrator Angela White in a Dec. 18 letter said the church wanted to extend its current activities on Ga. Highway 16 near Sharpsburg to develop the Marion Beavers Road property.

White said the church wanted to construct two baseball fields, a pavilion and playground, concessions, restrooms, a equipment storage facility and parking accommodations on the property. Stormwater management was also included in the submitted paperwork. White said the property has established parking and a paved entrance off Marion Beavers Road.

“This complex will support the outreach ministries of Crossroads Church while allowing a park in this area of the county,” White said.

Explaining that the property is currently zoned M-1 (Industrial), White said the use as a recreational facility would have significantly less impact on the surrounding property that is zoned Rural Conservation (RC) and includes the Winchester neighborhood.

Commissioners at the meeting also approved a buffer reduction from 100 feet to 25 feet.

Crossroads staff member Stanton Johnston said approval of the request would allow the church more room to grow its ministry.

Crossroads agreed to comply with the conditions recommended by the Board of Zoning Appeals.
