It is said that history repeats itself, and it often does so because good men stand by idly as if bound and gagged or as if spectators to a sport they have no control over.
We might ask ourselves why an affluent people persist in the belief that their obligations of good citizenship end at the ballot box. We believe in our elected representatives. We believe they have our best interests at heart. So we grow fat, complacent and apathetic while fiddling our way down the path to national ruin.
Our leaders are masterful at what they do. They create the conditions upon which we become drunk with our own success and, while gassed into complacency, strip us of our bounty and of our God-given liberty and, yes, even our right to fail.
The oppressor is anarchy, and it is unprecedented in our time. Anarchy lives in the geographic center of national power and in all three branches of government.
The Constitution, our founding document, the basis for all that is good and decent in America is under attack by those who have taken a solemn oath to protect it.
This brief document, this treatise of liberty and national pride for which so many have shed blood and sacrificed their all is becoming irrelevant. It was intended to be the Law of the Land upon which all other laws would be written.
Instead it has been ignored by our lawmakers, an unfortunate roadblock to self-serving egocentric politicians, some ideologues and some merely feeding at the treasury trough.
There has always existed a very murky line between politics and corruption, a line that has clearly been crossed where corruption has become endemic, ingrained in those we trust to hold fast the reins of government while protecting us from those who would do us harm.
Corruption would be bad enough were it not for treason, but by casting a blind eye to its tenets and by overtly subverting the Constitution itself, these scoundrels have become traitors. We are witness to a multitude of acts of treason and treachery within the highest levels of our government.
We the people must hold these sycophants and revolutionary ideologues accountable. We must hold them accountable at the ballot box first, then in our courts and if necessary, to the point of a sword.
