Dr. Weldon L. Odom, 75, Fayetteville, died Dec. 11, 2009 after a three-year long battle with cancer. He was a native of Hazlehurst, Ga. and was born Sept. 11, 1934. He was preceded in death by his mother, Johnnie Lou Odom. He was a graduate of Brown High School, Atlanta, and the Logan Basic College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Mo. He had served as president of the American Chiropractic Association from 1985 to 1987. He was in the chiropractic field for 42 years. He had served in the United States Navy and was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Fla., where he met his wife. At the age of 27 he was ordained as a deacon at Beecher Hills Baptist Church where he taught adult Sunday School. He was faithful member of the National Heights Baptist Church and served on the Board of Deacons and Finance Committee. Services were at the National Heights Baptist Church with a graveside service at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Helen Featherston Odom, Fayetteville; a son, the Rev. John L. and Emily Odom, Greensboro, N.C.; a daughter, Dr. Joan M. Odom, Avila Beach, Calif.; grandchildren, Nathaniel and Elizabeth; and father, Theo Odom. Memorial donations may be made to the National Heights Baptist Church, 103 Old Norton Rd., Fayetteville, GA 30215. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
