The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has made arrests in connection with two armed robberies that were reported on Nov. 29 and again on Nov. 30.
On Thursday, Fayette County Sheriff’s investigators, with the assistance of the Fairburn and Palmetto police departments, arrested Sedrick Whatley, 19, and Kevin Wygant, 17, both of Fairburn. They were each charged with two counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and one count of kidnapping.
Investigators also arrested a Fairburn juvenile for the incident that took place on Nov. 30. The juvenile has been charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and was taken to a youth detention center, deputies said.
The Nov. 29 incident occurred when Coleman’s Grocery, located at 1467 Ga. Highway 92 North, was robbed by two armed suspects.
A store employee had just closed and locked the front doors, when two men approached him in the store parking lot wearing clown-type masks. The two suspects displayed a silver handgun and forced the store employee back inside. Once inside, the suspects stole an undetermined amount of cash, lottery tickets and tobacco products.
The Nov. 30 incident took place when a Fayette County victim was followed to his home after completing a transaction at the Bank of America in Fayetteville. When the victim arrived at his home on Rocky Creek Court, he was approached by three individuals wearing masks and brandishing handguns.
The three suspects stole the victim’s wallet that contained identification cards, credit cards, and cash. None of the victims was hurt during these incidents.
