The Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department is seeking teams for a Monday/Tuesday night men’s softball league.

The league will observe the equalizer HR rule. All teams will have 12 games scheduled for Monday nights with possible doubleheaders. Makeup games will be Tuesday night the following week (eight days later). If there are multiple postponements, teams could play several consecutive Tuesday nights.

The season will begin April 13 with all games being played on Fields 6 and 7 at McCurry Park.

Registration is March 16-April 3. Entry fee is $500 unless 50 percent or more players are not county residents, in which case it is $550. Teams paying the lower rate will have to provide proof of residence for Fayette County residents on the roster. The entry fee includes a mandatory Amateur Softball Association (ASA) team registration fee. The entire entry fee and completed registration form must be submitted to be considered an official entry in the league.

Registration is taken on a first-come, first-served basis until the league is full. There will be a maximum of 12 teams on Monday nights.

Any special scheduling requests must be made known at registration. Once the schedule is set, there will be no rescheduling unless games are postponed due to weather or what the FCPRD deems extenuating circumstances.

The ASA’s 2015 edition of “Official Rules of Softball” will be the governing rules unless superseded by the FCPRD’s own league or park rules.

All players must be at least 18 years old at the time of participation.

The preseason coaches’ meeting will be Monday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the FCPRD office, 980 Redwine Road in Fayetteville.

The department is also taking an interest list for a possible lower-level league that would be played on Thursday nights.

An important rule change takes place the second week of the season. Metal/steel/sharp plastic cleats or spikes will not be allowed under any circumstances due to safety issues. This will go into effect after the first week of play because it may be difficult to get word to every player on every team.

Beginning April 20, there will be no exceptions. Simply stated, wear rubber cleats.
