Ellen Phoebe McGregor died Monday, November 25, 2013 at Southwest Christian Care, Union City, Ga.

She was born July 26, 1935 to George P. Coppage and Roberta Guess Coppage in Hahira, Ga.

Ellen is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, Lt. Colonel (retired) Thomas McGregor of Peachtree City, Ga., daughter Stephanie McGregor Aliffi and son in-law Thomas Joseph Aliffi of Stockbridge, Ga., sons John Thomas McGregor of Orlando, Fla. and Lee Duncan McGregor and daughter in-law Patsy Harp McGregor of Appling, Ga., grandchildren Thomas Nelson McGregor and Madelyn Grealy McGregor of Kennesaw, Ga.

Ellen was preceded in death by her brother, George Allen Coppage of San Francisco, Calif.

Being a soldierís wife, Ellen was very active in Army life; served as program chairman for the Officer’s Wives Club, and twice chairman for the OWC annual bazaar at Fort Benning, Ga. During the Vietnam era, served as a grey lady at Martin Army Hospital, helping the needs of recovering soldiers. Ellen was also co-founder of the Talent Tree organization where painters, sculptors etc. displayed their paintings for sale in support of the local charities at Fort Benning. A devoted wife in the corporate real estate world, she traveled with her husband in support of his working obligations for over thirty five years. While living in Naperville, Ill., she was a deaconess in the Presbyterian Church and served in that capacity for a number of years. She loved life, and many loved her. She will be missed.

Services will be held at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, 180 Jeff Davis Drive, Fayetteville, Ga. 30214 (770-461-7641) at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2013. Internment is at National Military Cemetery, Canton, Ga. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ellen’s memory can be made to the Georgia Chapter, Alzheimer’s Disease Fund, P.O. Box 96673, Washington, D.C. 20090-6673.
