A Fayetteville man was arrested Nov. 5 on aggravated assault charges involving his wife following a domestic incident.

Anthony Benjamin, 54, was charged with aggravated assault and three counts of cruelty to children, according to Fayetteville Police Department spokesman Chad Myers.

Myers said Benjamin’s wife called 911, saying her husband had attempted to break down the bedroom door after she had locked herself inside.

Officers arrived to find Benjamin outside the residence and detained him, Myer said, adding that he was intoxicated and agitated.

Myers said the home was cleared, with officers finding the bedroom door frame broken, a fabric holster outside the bedroom and a gun hidden under clothes in the laundry room.

Officers obtained multiple audio recordings of Benjamin verbally threatening to kill his wife, said Myers.

Three children were in the home at the time of the incident, Myers said.

Myers said it was not immediately known if Benjamin lives at the residence.
