Griffin Choral Arts, under the direction of Dr. Stephen J. Mulder, has announced the concert schedule for 2016-2017, its tenth anniversary season.

The season theme is “Standing Ovation” and each concert will have a featured repeat performance as well as selections never yet performed by the choir.

The season begins Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at Griffin First United Methodist Church with “WELL DONE!” The featured work is Gabriel Faure’s Requiem, accompanied by a professional chamber orchestra. The GCA Chamber Choir will perform Morten Lauridsen’s “Les Chansons des Roses,” a set that was performed at the first GCA concert in October 2007.

“CHEERS!” will be presented Thursday, Dec. 1, at Griffin First Baptist Church and Sunday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m. at Griffin First United Methodist Church. Christmas with Griffin Choral Arts is a community tradition. It is a choral holiday celebration accompanied by organ, percussion, and Macon’s Barrister Brass. The newly formed GCA Children’s Chorus will perform with the adults Sunday afternoon.

The season continues Thursday, March 16, 2017 “BRAVO!” at The Griffin Auditorium. The Clayton State University Chorale (Dr. Michael Fuchs, director) will join GCA as they perform Haydn’s “Mass in Time of War” and selections by Mozart.

The final concert of the season, “ENCORE!” will be presented Thursday, May 4, in the Fine Arts Auditorium at Gordon State College in Barnesville. Selections from Carol Orff’s “Carmina Burana” will be presented, accompanied by two pianos and percussion ensemble.  Former GCA accompanist Seth Davis will be a guest performer.

Evening concerts begin at 7:30 pm.  Tickets are $15 general admission at the door or in advance in Griffin at Safehouse Coffee Roasters, Artistic Flowers and Gifts, and the Griffin First United Methodist Church office; in Barnesville at Goggans Florist; in Fayetteville at the Threlkeld Academy of Music; and in Zebulon at A Novel Experience bookstore.
