Fayetteville police are investigating a Jan. 16 traffic accident that began as an attempted traffic stop on South Glynn Street. Though the pursuit was terminated, the auto was subsequently involved in a single-vehicle collision on North Glynn Street at Banks Station.
It was on Jan. 16 at 3:43 p.m. that a Fayetteville officer attempted a traffic stop on a motorist for multiple traffic violations in the area of South Glynn Street and Bradley Drive. The motorist subsequently fled from the officer and a brief vehicle pursuit ensued, said Fayetteville Police Department spokesperson Ann Marie Burdett.
Burdett said the department terminated their pursuit of the violator in the area of North Glynn Street and East Georgia Avenue.
Police Chief Scott Gray said the attempted traffic stop for suspended registration was terminated due to weather conditions, with the officer turning the patrol vehicle around so the fleeing motorist would be aware that the pursuit had ended.
The fleeing motorist continued traveling northbound in a reckless manner despite the officer’s terminating the chase, Burdett said. Within minutes, the suspect’s speeding came to an end.
“At 3:46 p.m., officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of North Glynn Street and Creekwood Trail (at Banks Station). It was determined that the vehicle involved in the collision was the same vehicle that previously fled from the attempted traffic stop,” Burdett said. “The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was transported to an Atlanta area hospital for treatment.”
Burdett the incident remains under investigation.
