An 18-year-old Fayetteville man is in custody after fighting with his stepparent, trashing portions of the house, smashing a vehicle windshield and fleeing before he was located and arrested by police.
David Reid, 18, is facing charges of aggravated assault, battery-family violence, obstructing a person making an emergency call, obstructing law enforcement and criminal trespass, according to Fayetteville Police Department spokesperson Ann Marie Burdett.
Burdett said a county communications center dispatcher on Dec. 22 was notified by a male caller/complainant that their stepson was actively damaging property at their residence, with police subsequently dispatched to a Beauregard Boulevard residence at approximately 10:09 p.m.
“Dispatch informed police the complainant stated their stepson (Reid) snatched their phone out of their hand as they attempted to leave the scene with his male and female friend, and a fight broke out between them,” said Burdett. “The fight came to an end, and the stepson and his two friends fled the scene on foot and ran through the woods toward Ga. Highway 85, where they were located by police after a short foot chase.”
Burdett said police obtained witness statements from the parents who stated the son/stepson allegedly caused damage to the home by punching holes in his bedroom walls, destroying food items from the refrigerator, breaking the glass out of a back kitchen door, and shattering the windshield of an automobile.
Reid was transported to the Fayette County Jail, where he was transferred to jail personnel and is pending warrants for the offenses mentioned, Burdett said.
