The Jeep Grand Cherokee used in the July 31 hit and run on South Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree City that resulted in serious injury to a local man was found by investigators at a body shop in Atlanta.

Kenneth Vialet, 38, was arrested Aug. 2 and charged with felony hit and run, serious injury by a motor vehicle collision and violation of the new state law requiring motorists to provide a safe distance when passing bicycles.

Vialet had been charged in the July 31 incident where a 35-year-old bicyclist John Snyder was found in the roadway on South Peachtree Parkway at Fisher’s Luck after being struck by a motor vehicle that left the scene.

Peachtree City Police Department spokesman Chris Hyatt said investigative efforts led to detectives on Aug. 4 locating the vehicle at an Atlanta body shop.

The vehicle was located without any cooperation from Vialet as to the vehicle’s whereabouts, Hyatt noted.

Hyatt added that there are no charges anticipated for employees at the body shop.

Hyatt explained that the investigation is ongoing.

Snyder as a result of the collision was carried via medical helicopter to the Grady Hospital intensive care unit where he continues to be treated for extensive head trauma and other injuries, according to a GoFundMe page set up for Snyder and his family by Evergreen Church in Peachtree City.

Officers at 6:36 a.m. on July 31 were dispatched to a possible collision involving a cyclist on Peachtree Parkway, in the southbound lanes, north of Fisher’s Luck.

“Upon arrival, officers observed that a male bicyclist had injuries to the face and head area,” police previously said. “It was quickly apparent that he was a victim of a motor vehicle collision.”

  1. I sure hope that those new state laws requiring a SAFE DISTANCE when passing pedestrians walking or running on the Peachtree City paths will start to be enforced against golf cart drivers and bicyclists! I feel like I am always having a NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE as I am passed by MOST OF THESE INCONSIDERATE, RECKLESS and UNHINGED MANIACS when I am out walking on the pathways! IT IS DISGRACEFUL how little regard these people have for the safety of others!
