The 9-year-old Blue Devils of Fayette County, a top ranked team in Division 1 of the Southern Competitive Football League, decided to put their helmets and pads down for a day, and give back to the Atlanta community in the spirit of being thankful.

Partnering with a church in the city, the boys packed meals and wrapped plastic utensils all morning, and spent the afternoon riding through Atlanta in search of those less fortunate this Thanksgiving. The team, along with church members and coaches, handed out an entire van full of boxed meals and bottles of water to the homeless in Atlanta.

Coach Alvin Mitchell explained the mission to the boys prior to heading out. “We want you to see that the world isn’t all about football and video games, that there are people out there who need your help. Have a smile on your face, man up, and give back,” Mitchell said.

The coaches also plan on adding this type of community work to their regular schedule of practice and scrimmages.

The Blue Devils, coached by Michael Wright, will represent Fayette County as one of the top eight teams in the state at the Born to Compete Bowl in Atlanta in December.
