A Covington man was arrested on multiple charges on Oct. 30 after fleeing officers at a traffic stop on Ga. Highway 92 North, then driving recklessly with juveniles in the vehicle while attempting to avoid deputies.
Martez L. White, 29, was charged with two counts of cruelty to children, fleeing and eluding law enforcement, three counts of passing on a solid yellow line, running a red light, two counts of duty upon striking fixture, reckless driving, three counts of obedience to traffic signs, speeding and suspended license, according to Fayette County Jail records.
Sheriff Barry Babb said White on Oct. 30 at approximately 8:07 p.m. had been travelling southbound on Hwy. 92 North and was pulled over by a deputy for passing in a no passing zone near the intersection with Ginger Cake Road.
The deputy exited and approached White’s vehicle, with White driving off. White continued south on Hwy. 92 with deputies in pursuit. He entered and exited subdivisions along the highway, driving at a high rate of speed and driving recklessly, said Babb.
Deputies at one point deployed stop-sticks, which White was able to avoid, Babb said.
Babb said White’s vehicle was located on Hwy. 92 North, approximately one mile south of Victoria Drive, where two juvenile females, ages 13 and 15, were found standing next to the vehicle and with White having run into the tree line.
White subsequently exited the tree line and turned himself over to Fayetteville officers at the scene, Babb said.
Could have been bad for all, thanks for a job well done law enforcement.
