Fayetteville’s request for a temporary access road along Heritage Parkway to assist with the renovation of the old school system bus barn and gym on the new Fayetteville City Hall and City Center Park property was approved Oct. 8 by the Fayette County Commission.

The old bus barn and gym, situated behind the new City Hall building now under construction, are two of the upcoming venues in the 8-acre City Center Park. Current plans call for the bus barn to be redeveloped into a microbrewery and restaurant, while the old gym will be redeveloped as an event center.

City Manager Ray Gibson at the meeting said the developer will need better access to the buildings other than the current access from Ga. Highway 54. Given that, the city requested a six-month temporary access from Heritage Parkway in the form of a gravel roadway.

The access roadway will be located south of the Fayette County Master Gardener plot on Heritage Parkway, and will be used only for vehicles involved in the redevelopment effort.

The vote by commissioners was unanimous.

The access will be in effect after Nov. 3.
