Members of the Newnan Korean Methodist Church May 17 were granted an amendment to a 2010 conditional use permit by the Coweta County Commission that will increase the size of the church’s sanctuary. The church will be located on Lora Smith Road off Ga. Highway 34 in east Coweta.

County zoning technician Michelle Ward in an April 18 letter said the church received a conditional use permit for the 4.28-acre property in March 2010. That permit included a sanctuary totaling 2,450 square feet. The current amendment request increased the size of the sanctuary to 3,974 square feet, bringing the church building to approximately 9,000 square feet.

The church building will be situated at the rear of the property. A total of 194 parking spaces will be provided, with 97 paved and a grassed area for 97 reserved spaces for future use, Ward said.

In terms of the amount of traffic generated, estimates are for 82 vehicle trips on weekdays, 93 trips on Saturdays and 330 trips on Sundays.

The current proposal showed renderings of the building as mostly brick with accents of EIFS, often referred to as a type of insulated synthetic stucco, on the parapets. The renderings appear to meet requirements and provide a compatible, residential feel with other churches in the area, said Ward.

The amendment was previously recommended for approval by the Coweta County Planning Department and the county Board of Zoning Appeals.
