The Senoia City Council at its April 18 meeting approved a variance for roadway improvements for the Tranquil Village elderly care facility project on Coweta Street. The approval will still have the facility responsible for paving 7,600 feet of roadway but will not require the construction of curb and gutter.
Tranquil Village will be located on 7.34 acres on Coweta Street. The variance request asked that the development not be required to install curb and gutter along the 7,600 foot roadway. The council agreed, though it did require that the development submit detailed drawings of the adjacent drainage ditch and agree to a two-year maintenance of the stormwater drainage area along the roadway.
It was noted that the absence of curb and gutter would not adversely affect stormwater runoff in the area.
The proposal for the assisted living center by Tranquil Village, LLC on the Coweta Street property surplused by the city was first considered by the council in July 2010. City Administrator Richard Ferry was asked at that time to gather information that could lead to a contract on the property. Ferry subsequently recommended that the property be deeded to the Downtown Development Authority to move the projected forward.
Ferry at the July meeting explained that Tranquil Village was proposing to either pay $5,000 per acre for the seven-acre property or to construct a building of similar value to be used as a meeting place by the Boy Scouts. Tranquil Village recently announced that it would construct the Boy Scout hut.
The idea of creating an assisted living center is keeping with the city’s previously stated position that the property be used to develop a facility for elderly care, Ferry said.
Construction of the facility is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year, according to project representatives.
