A 17-year-old Fayetteville resident has been charged after striking two cyclists riding along Goza Road on Sept. 4 and leaving the scene. One of the cyclists sustained serious injuries.
Joseph J. Herbert was charged with felony hit and run, misdemeanor hit and run and other traffic offenses, according to Sheriff Barry Babb.
Babb said the incident occurred on Sept. 4 at approximately 7:46 p.m. as two cyclists from Peachtree City were riding along Goza Road. The cyclists were reportedly riding single-file along the roadway.
The Chevrolet Suburban driven by Herbert clipped the 48-year-old female cyclist from behind with the vehicle’s mirror, causing her to crash, Babb said.
Babb said Herbert did not stop, and drove away.
The woman sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized, Babb noted.
The 52-year-old male cyclist, who had been riding in front of the female, was also struck by the vehicle’s mirror, Babb said, adding that the man was not injured in the incident.
Herbert was located on Sept. 5 and taken into custody, Babb said.
