The international price of copper is projected to rebound, and with it came the Feb. 19 theft of copper from a vacant home on Sandy Creek Road.
Sheriff Barry Babb said workers arriving at a foreclosed home on Sandy Creek Road came upon a rental vehicle in the driveway being loaded with copper from the home.
Deputies were provided with information on the incident and the investigation is underway, Babb said.
Also in the unincorporated areas, there was a vehicle theft and a burglary during the period of Feb. 15-21.
The burglary occurred on Feb. 15 at a home under construction on Ga. Highway 85 Connector.
Babb said there was no forced entry, adding that plumbing fixtures were stolen.
A vehicle was reported stolen on Feb. 19 from the parking lot of a business on Ga. Highway 54 east of Fayetteville.
When deputies arrived, the owner of the Dodge Avenger said he knew who took the vehicle but would not supply deputies with the person’s name, Babb said.
In Tyrone, there was one burglary and two entering autos reported during the period.
The resident of a home on Senoia Road reported the burglary on Feb. 15. Investigators said the house was unlocked, with cash, medications, bank cards and identification cards stolen, according to Tyrone Police Department spokesman Philip Nelson.
One of the entering auto incidents was reported on Feb. 15 at a Parkhaven Lane house under construction.
Nelson said the contractor reported that his cell phone was stolen from his unlocked vehicle.
A second entering auto was reported on Feb. 17 at the South Hampton Village retail area on Ga. Highway 74.
The vehicle’s owner said he exited the grocery store to find that medications were missing from his unlocked vehicle, Nelson said.
Law enforcement always warns motorists never to leave their vehicles unlocked, where at home or in the community, and to never leave valuables in plain sight.
