The woman sought by Peachtree City Police for removing cash from a purse at a local retailer turned herself into police three days after her photo was posted on the department’s Facebook page.

Maria A. Sedano-Leyva, 38, of Peachtree City, was charged with theft by taking, according to Fayette County Jail records.

The incident occurred on Nov. 23 at the Ross department store in the Kedron Village retail area.

Bergh said Sedano-Leyva told investigators her daughter found the purse on a clothes rack. Sedano-Leyva thought it was regular merchandise until she looked inside, adding that her daughter did not know she removed the cash, Bergh noted.

Peachtree City police on the department’s Facebook page said before the arrest, “We would like to speak with this mother about her parenting techniques. Mom located an unattended purse and used a child to carry the purse to the restroom where they removed all of the cash.”
