Five former Chiefs were inducted Oct. 14 into the McIntosh High School Hall of Fame.
Symonte Dion Stokes (Class of 1999) lettered in football and track. As a running back he led the region with 1,652 all-purpose yards and rushed for 946 yards in 1998, winning county Offensive Player of the Year honors. He finished third in the state in the long jump. He is considered one of the better defensive backs in Georgia Southern University’s history.
Katie Schulz Best (Class of 2005) was a three-time All-State and two-time All-American soccer player. While at Vanderbilt as a three-year team captain she was twice named to the All-SEC first team and also made the All-Freshman team.
Brycen Counts (Class of 1992) was Junior Olympian gymnast while in high school and later a member of the NCAA runner-up men’s gymnastics team at the University of California-Berkeley in 1996. He has worked in Hollywood as a stunt performer in more than 60 movies and is now working as stunt coordinator at Pinewood on the latest AntMan movie and also on a new movie at Tyler Perry Studios.
Tracy Furr (Class of 1989) lettered in softball, basketball and soccer. She was the first-ever McIntosh softball player to be named All-State while being part of two region championship teams, finishing second and third in the state those two years.
Harold Baro (MHS Class of 1989) lettered in football and baseball. As a wide receiver and defensive back he set a school record and led the region in interceptions. He was later a member of the 1990 national championship football team at Georgia Tech.
