REVISED 10:02 a.m. Dec. 25 — The Christmas Day forecast for Fayette and Coweta counties is for a wintry mix of rain, sleet and some snow, but little of the white stuff will accumulate, according to the National Weather service office in Peachtree City.

Tonight may see some dusting of snow in grassy areas in this area, the NWS office said Saturday morning.

Here’s the pertinent part of the latest special weather statement:

A mixture of snow, sleet and light rain will spread from north Georgia this morning into central Georgia by this afternoon.

The greater threat of snow accumulations will be generally along and north of a Rome to Gainesville line where 1 to 3 inches are possibly through Sunday morning. Isolated greater amounts are possible in the higher elevations of northeast Georgia tonight.

Some light accumulations are also possible in the Atlanta and Athens areas, where possibly 1 to 2 inches could accumulate, mainly from Saturday evening through Sunday morning when temperatures fall below freezing.

Areas generally south of a Newnan to Madison to Washington line, the precipitation is expected to fall mainly as rain, occasionally mixed with snow or sleet. A light dusting of snow is possible on grassy areas tonight.

Light snow and slick roadways will remain a threat on Sunday, mainly north and east.
