Volunteers from the Kiwanis Club of Fayette County, Fayette Photographic Society and others pitched in with the Fayette County Water System to clean up Starr’s Mill earlier in May.
Months of meetings and planning went into the FCWS’s efforts to see the 17 acres that make up the Starr’s Mill property become as attractive, safe and inviting as possible for the community to enjoy.
In addition to Starr’s Mill, the FCWS operates three lakes that are open to the public. Lake Kedron and Lake McIntosh in Peachtree City, and Lake Horton in south Fayette County. All four are open to fishing.
Sailboats, rowboats and electric motors are allowed at Lake Kedron, Lake Horton, and Lake McIntosh. Hydrocarbon or alcohol-fueled power boats or other vessels so powered are prohibited.
The lakes are open from 6:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. EDT. Anyone fishing or boating must comply with all DNR rules and regulations. No swimming, skiing, scuba diving or other bodily contact with the water is allowed. Docks and boat ramps are available at Lake Horton, Lake McIntosh and Lake Kedron. Lake Horton and Lake McIntosh have walking trails. Starr’s Mill has picnic tables available.
