Community leaders are joining together to support Christian City’s ministry to abandoned and abused children this Christmas by hosting the 4th Annual Children’s “Chair-ity” fundraiser. This unique and elegant event will be held at the The Dolce Hotel and Resort in Peachtree City at 201 Aberdeen Parkway. All proceeds will help the children who live in the cottages at Christian City to have a wonderful holiday season and will help buffer the many other operational costs The Children’s Village faces this winter.
Guests are invited to drop in on Thursday, Dec. 2 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to kick off the holiday and pick up a great gift for that special someone at Santa’s Workshop and silent auction. Tickets are $30 each and include hors d’oeuvres and refreshments, music and holiday cheer. They can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 770-703-2636.
To do their part, the children who live at The Children’s Village are painting miniature chairs which will be sold as Christmas ornaments. Local artisans have painted original and beautiful children’s chairs and other pieces of art, which will all be sold to the highest bidder. Over 60 local businesses have donated fun, funky and unique items as well as themed baskets such as a Date Night basket, a Rejuvenation basket, Sports Tickets basket, a Pet Lover’s basket, Gourmet baskets and many others that will make holiday shopping easy. A trip for four to Tuscany, his and her watches, jewelry, sports memorabilia, Christmas décor and a romantic dinner for two are just some of the exciting items up for bid.
The Children’s Chair-ity fundraiser is being put on by hard working volunteers who have been meeting since May. This years team, lead by Angela Bean, is looking forward to provide this unique event at a new venue, The Dolce Atlanta, who is also a sponsor. Over 90 small and large businesses including Nestle Purina, AT&T, Georgia Power, MC Events and BB&T Reese Insurance to name a few, are sponsoring this effort and play a big role in it’s success.
Christian City’s President and CEO Bob Crutchfield spoke about this year’s event with gratitude. “I am humbled by the amazing efforts of the volunteers, hosts, artists and sponsors. It is amazing how many people have come together and how hard they have worked to make this a special event. There is no way we could provide for our children during the holidays if it weren’t for the generosity of the community. We are forever grateful,” Crutchfield remarked.
Located in Union City, Christian City cares for children who come to them both by private placement and from the Department of Family and Children Services. The children live in cottages with full time houseparents. With a focus on family, education and healing, Christian City is well known and respected throughout Georgia as providing a program of excellence. Social workers, house parents and psychologists work together to minister to children who are dealing with life crisis, such as death of a parent, divorce, or sexual, physical, and emotional abuse issues. Christian City’s program allows children from every background to have access to a traditional family environment and support systems to help mend their wounded spirits. For many, Christian City will be the only home some children ever know.
