All Saints Anglican Church will offer Wednesday night Stations of the Cross services beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, and continuing every Wednesday night through April 5. Services will be followed by a pot luck supper and Bible study.

From very early times, pilgrims to Jerusalem have desired to walk along the same road Jesus walked on Good Friday, pausing to meditate on his sufferings and the sacrifice he made  at various stops or “stations” along the way.

Desiring to imitate this practice, the faithful who were unable to be in Jerusalem during Holy Week would walk “the way of the cross” around their churches, stopping for a reading and prayers at stations marked by a plain wooden cross.

Over time the number of these stations settled on 14. Eight are taken directly from scripture.  The others, Jesus falling on the way (3, 7, 9), a woman wiping his face (6) and interactions with his mother (4, 13), are inferred from scripture or taken from oral tradition.

The service was popularized in the later Middle Ages in the western church particularly by the Franciscans.

All Saints is at 149 Ebenezer Road (just south of Ga. Highway 54, east of Peachtree City). For more information, call the church office,  770-486-5374.
